Flu Vaccines 2025/2026

Flu jabs are now available for the upcoming flu season.

There are a few different types of flu vaccine available.

They are all based upon data from the Southern Hemisphere’s more recent flu season, and thus change from year to year.

New Flu, Pneumonia & Shingles Vaccines Available‍

Flu season approaches, and with last season seeing higher levels than previous, it’s time to get winter-ready with your annual vaccinations.

Flu and Pneumonia can be serious, leading to thousands of hospitalisations and deaths each year in England.

The flu and pneumococcal vaccines offer the best protection against infection, getting seriously ill or passing it onto others.

The joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JVCI) advises most adults to be vaccinated from October.

Anyone from 6 months of age can get the Flu vaccine, whilst those over 65 are encouraged to also have the pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine.

Over 50's may also want to consider a Shingles vaccination.  Shingles can be severely painful, debilitating, and can lead to serious complications.

A recent study has also suggested that people who received a newer version of the shingles vaccine, called “Shingrix”, appear to have a lower risk of dementia than those given an older shingles vaccine.

These can all be administered at the same appointment.

  • The usual flu vaccine given to anyone from 6 months of age up to 64

Covers 3 strains of flu likely to be prevalent this year

  • This is specifically formulated to be more effective in people aged over 65

It has long been a problem that the standard flu vaccine does not stimulate a great response in those over 65 - this contains an adjuvant (the -ad part in Fluad) which stimulates a much more effective immune response
